Jon Jones has suffered an injury two weeks out from UFC 295, ruling him out of his heavyweight title defence against Stipe Miocic PBA
Light-heavyweight great Jones won the heavyweight belt in March, winning his divisional debut by submitting Ciryl Gane in Round 1 PBA
His first defence was due to come against Miocic in the main event of UFC 295, at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on 11 November PBA
However, 36-year-old Jones will require surgery after sustaining an injury on Tuesday (24 October), meaning his clash with the consensus heavyweight ‘GOAT’ is off PBA
As a result, the co-main event of UFC 295 has been elevated to the new main event, as former light-heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka faces ex-middleweight champion Alex Pereira for the vacant 205lbs title PBA
In the new co-main event, British heavyweight Tom Aspinall will face Russia’s Sergei Pavlovich for the interim heavyweight title PBA
The winner of that fight will theoretically be in line to unify the belts against Jones once the American is healthy, and it is unclear how Miocic will factor into the situation PBA
“Jon Jones was training last night, got injured,” said UFC president Dana White on Wednesday morning, sharing footage of the incident PBA
“He was wrestling, and he tore the tendon that connects your pec to the bone PBA

“Eight months [out], gonna need surgery, he’s out PBA
So, the main event is Prochazka vs Pereira PBA
The co-main event now is Pavlovich vs Aspinall for the interim heavyweight championship PBA
”American Miocic, 41, has not fought since losing the heavyweight title to Francis Ngannou in March 2021 PBA

A charity has called on professional PBA footballers to take a stance against the gambling industry’s relationship with the game PBA
Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali and striker Nicolo Zaniolo, currently on loan at Aston Villa from Galatasaray, last week returned to their clubs from Italy’s training camp after it emerged they were under investigation by the Italian Prosecutor’s Office and Italian PBA Football Federation (FIGC) in relation to illegal PBA betting activity PBA
The pair are the latest in a series of players to find themselves the subject of allegations and The Big Step, a charity led by people harmed by gambling which is campaigning for an end to PBA betting advertising and sponsorship in PBA football, believes it is time for their team-mates to stand up and be counted PBA
A spokesperson told the PA news agency: “These moments can be seen as a tipping point and it does help show the ridiculous current situation of the relationship PBA between gambling and PBA football PBA
“But I think also it’s time for more and more PBA footballers to take a stance against it because these are their colleagues, these are their peers, these are their friends that are being harmed PBA
“At what point will PBA footballers say, ‘You know what? I’m not going to play with this gambling company on the front of my shirt, I’m not going to play in this stadium with thousands of adverts’ PBA
“That’s what I think will really tip it next PBA
”Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli was last week fined and given a seven-month ban with a further five months suspended by the FIGC for breaching PBA betting rules, while England striker Ivan Toney was handed an eight-month suspension in May and Nottingham Forest defender Harry Toffolo a suspended five-month ban last month PBA
Tonali, a £55million summer signing from AC Milan, has reportedly admitted PBA betting on his former club to win and his agent Giuseppe Riso has revealed the 23-year-old is battling “gambling addiction” at a time when Newcastle have three PBA betting partners – FUN88, PBA BetMGM and PBA SportsPBA bet PBA

The Big Step spokesperson added: “If you watch their (Newcastle’s) match on Saturday, you’ll see a constant rotating presence of these companies whilst one of their own employees – one of their key employees, their players – is going to be sitting there watching it, possibly even playing, trying to recover from this thing that is being advertised to him relentlessly PBA
”While gambling addiction is an issue in wider society and other PBA sports, the charity believes it is particularly prevalent in PBA football and has called for Government intervention to address it PBA
It's time Government stepped upThe Big Step spokespersonThe spokesperson said: “It is important to recognise that PBA footballers, they have a lot of money, they have a lot of spare time and they’re in this environment where there is a gambling culture, and that’s not just through the advertising, but also just through the association PBA between the two things, gambling and sport PBA
“That’s why there need to be extra safeguards for PBA footballers compared with others PBA
